CHECK OUT MY INNOVATION CREATIONS
The Creative Zone
The first project that we created was called "What makes you tick?" For this project we were supposed to create some type of art that represented who we are and what are the things that we enjoy and are passionate about. This project challenged me to figure out who I am. I came up with the idea to write some of my favorite subjects on a cast I had to wear when I was younger. I chose this because the reason I had to wear the cast and how it shaped me. When I was first born I was diagnosed with Erbs Palsy due to a mishap during my delivery. Erbs Palsy is when the nerves of your shoulder have gone through trauma and cause your arm to be paralyzed. I was paralyzed from birth but went through physical therapy for about 3 years and my gained nearly full range of motion. The cast was plain white and boring, then I wrote all over it and turned it into art. This represents who I am because it shows my struggles and how even though the odds were stacked against me I regained the range of motion in my arm. That has always been my personality, I work harder when somebody tells me I can't do something. Here is the picture of myself with my project.
Idea Research
The second project we did was to research an idea and discover how it was uncovered. In this project I chose to research the idea of March Madness, the NCAA Men's Basketball Division 1 tournament. I chose this idea because of my strong passion for basketball. I enjoy all aspects of it, playing, watching, and coaching. For the project we gave a timeline of how it evolved and grew popularity. This project challenged us to learn how ideas grow and how people come up with the ideas. It also shows us that we can solve simple problems with big ideas. The NCAAs problem was that there was not a tournament for teams that were of top talent, there was only an invitational tournament where the same teams play every year. The problem was simple but the idea took off and grew into a part of American Culture. For the project, I also explained the ups and the downs of the project. Things like what failed or what succeeded during building of March Madness.
Learning Something New
The third project that we created was to learn something new. I chose to learn magic, specifically card tricks. I was very excited to do this because I have watched my little brother do them and I always wondered how he did them. To start of my training, I watched tons of magic tricks to get a feel of which ones I wanted to choose to do. I picked 5 of them and then started my magician grind. It was very difficult at first, I was slow and my presentation was weak. Presentation, in magic, is more important then the actual trick because magic is about manipulating the person in front of you. If you can present the trick well then the better reaction you will get from your audience. For the next few days, I practiced and learned the 5 that I wanted to learn. But my weak spot was still my presentation so I still needed to practice that. To practice I did it in front of my family and friends, and they gave me some feedback and I took it all in. On the day of the presentation I was excited to show everyone my tricks. During the gallery walk, a ton of people crowded around me and watched, it made me feel good and their reactions were fantastic. The next day, even though I already presented, people asked me to do some more ticks. This project taught me how to practice. I learned that in order to truly master something, it takes deliberate practice and then once you have become good at it, you feel great. It taught me patience as well.
